Gratitude Stories: Mimmo’s 30th Birthday

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage”

– Lao Tzu

We are delighted to introduce Robyn and her Boyfriend Mimmo for this week’s Gratitude Story. Unfortunately, since Robyn splits her time living in the US and Italy, she wasn’t able to be with Mimmo on his 30th Birthday. She reached out to us to help make this milestone birthday something special and that made all the difference…

1-2tribute-lineWhy did you think it was a good idea for this person to receive a Tribute?

Robyn: Mimmo lives in Italy. Throughout the year, I live three months in Italy and then three months in the States. Rinse + Repeat. His birthday, which is the day after mine, happened to be when we couldn’t be together.

Celebrating without each other could have been a big bummer. Instead, I was determined for each of us to have full and vibrant days, in spite of us being apart. Since it was a milestone birthday for both of us, I was super motivated to make it special for him by giving the gift of love + support from myself and all our loved ones.

What is your favorite thing about this person?

Robyn (Girlfriend): I’ve grown so much in the last two years with Mimmo. He inspires + pushes me to the best version of myself. This is my favorite thing about him. Also his hair. The man has great hair.

What were the circumstances when they received their Tribute? (ie. Where, When, How?)

Robyn: Given that Mimmo’s day was going to be jam packed with work and then a party, I wanted us to be able to hang out (virtually) when I sent him the Tribute link. With the time difference, I was rushing to get ready for my birthday dinner and it was very late for him.  We were on FaceTime and I told him I wanted to give him his present early. He protested a bit, but I insisted since I knew it was 30 minutes long! A lot of people had showed up to wish him the best.

What was their reaction while watching their Tribute?

Robyn: Mimmo was blown away when he hit play. He was even more surprised + touched when the third video rolled into wishes from British friends of ours living in California, singing Happy Birthday in Italian.

I think up until that point he thought it was going to be a small family video. With their appearance he realized it was going to be much bigger event. Every time someone new showed up on the screen he would gasp and exclaim “NOOOOOOOOOO!”

The absolute best, was I had tracked down his former NYU professor from years before. Since we had never met, Mimmo couldn’t have anticipated seeing him on the screen. Even days after he kept saying he just couldn’t believe that everyone had taken the time to wish him well.

How did this make you personally feel?

Robyn: Giving Mimmo the gift of a Tribute {love} message felt like a birthday present to myself. It was the one moment I was most looking forward to.  I had tears falling on my cheeks as he hit play + I was laughing while he kept exclaiming as each new person showed up on his screen.

Please ask the Tribute recipient how it made him/her feel to receive their Tribute.

From Mimmo “I couldn’t believe that she had taken the time and energy to put this together for me. Also that so many people showed up to wish me happy birthday! I was really surprised and happy to receive this gift.”
